Girl - Zone
In my continuous commitment to regular uploads on my blog I have set up a “girl” only zone to work at in my room. My son Jorge usually takes up most of the sun- room designated desk area with either his computer or yoga mat where he is either IM-Ing his friends or doing head stands and or push ups therefore he leaves very little room for me to work at.
I had a little bit of space in my room near my windows so the area was perfect for a) my new work space and b) storage for my darlings belongings (after all my man friend needs somewhere to park his things right?) so I headed down to Reverse Garbage in West End to look for the perfect item that could be useful to make a cool looking desk/storage…
So- I didn’t want a desk looking desk…I wanted something that had a little character and didn’t look too much like an office desk. In my mind I had a picture of a door just like the one I used to make Jorge’s desk. I searched and searched and when I came across this little beauty hidden behind a whole lot of other doors I was inspired.
First it was the perfect width (2 and a half Kati hands) and the perfect length ( 12 Kati hands) and the colour was not my first choice but it was pleasant and still had the old hinges that were once attached to a doorway and made me wonder where it came from and how many people actually walked through it and what made the owners give it away for recycling and if they ever imagine that their humble little door would make this little blogger’s day… Best of all it was marked $12.50 yes not $125 or even $1250 it was a little old $12.50!
Now for some legs or something alike…on my last trip to Reverse Garbage I purchased a set of three cardboard tumbles that I have used to store the many shoes I had to take home when I left Suncorp. They are the perfect height so I used them as the legs and finally used one of the chairs I got from a vintage store in the Gabba as my new work chair…and the results. Well… I think it speaks for itself as the best work area for me. I am surrounded by all my favorite things while feeling connected to the outside world…
