We got there a little late but not too late for a red carpet walk nor to have a little drink of champagne before the show. I truly did not know where to look or who to look at. Everyone got dressed up for the night (I really wish we were able to take pictures). So many interesting designs and some famous faces…I felt so proud of Brisbane and impressed with GOMA for putting on such an amazing show!

The first dress we saw was the Valentino evening gown Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2008, Model 184. Collection: Valentino Archives. This is the dress that features on the pictures of my invite and on the pictures with this post. The dress that my took breath away…I know its a pretty emotional reaction when looking at a dress but to someone that loves Valentino dresses it’s a pretty fitting reaction I think.

The other highlight of the show was his collection of red dresses…(WOW) I do not own a red dress but I am going to make it my fashion mission for the year to get a red hot red dress. The Valentino show will be at Goma until the 14Th of November and I will be definitely going back for a second look.

Me and my posy…

Posed for West End’s local photographer Patrick Sherlock. He is putting together an photographic exhibition on West End and it’s many interesting characters. You can read all about it here.

While it was an awesome experience that I was lucky enough to share with some of my favorite peeps there are some things that as I get older I notice a little more.

These are some of the things I now know for sure after the modeling gig:

It is hard work to look pretty-as in my legs and abs killed me on Sunday morning from sitting in the same position for a long period of time. I really do have a new found respect for professional modes.

My usual mascara+blush+lady danger does not = photo ready face and It takes ages to put make up on and requires an expert or two in the art of make up to look good for the camera.

Mac lashes do not include the glue that it’s needed to stick them on your eyes and the glue available at the supermarket it’s meant to last for 15 days. ( So not suitable if your are planning a 30 day yoga challenge)

You should always brush your teeth before putting lipstick on and not afterwards…(thanks Channy)

Drinking champagne during the shoot does not make you more relaxed…it just makes you drunk!

No matter how much time and expensive eye remover it’s used to remove the make up you still wake up looking like a panda the next morning.

I am including some cool pictures taken by Keith while I we were getting ready and some taken with the hipstamatic of channy and Fez this was by far the best part of the day…

My new toy!

I took this pictures on the weekend with my new i-phone app. The Hipstamatic application is by far one of the best applications that I have ever played with (yes better than word with friends)

The application was based on the legendary Hipstamatic camera that was built for a small town in Wisconsin. It has the ability to swap lenses and take multiple film formats. The little plastic gem was on it’s way to becoming a pretty popular camera but sadly only a couple of hundreds were ever made.

All I can say is thank you I-phone for bringing this application to those of us who missed out on the original… you have given me the chance to take at least one legendary picture!

The Fox and Bunny

My friend Kylie Gartside is back from her and her little family’s adventure in northern NSW. She brought back with her some little friends that I think are pretty cute. This is what she told me when I asked her what inspired her new range of lovely jewels…

The fox and bunny are the base for one of my new ranges - Life’s a game of chase. I noticed as humans we are always chasing something - I guess without the desire to get to the next phase we’d all stand still. Think of all the things you’ve pursued in your life - passions, hobbies, causes, jobs, boys, HAPPINESS. Then again, the constant chase can get exhausting.

Also inspired by the cute but non-native additions to the emerald green landscape of Northern NSW. There were bunnies everywhere and the foxes that chase them! Just remember - don’t get caught in the headlights.

Modelled on old coins. Sterling silver with a soft Matt Finish. Pendants made from 100% recycled silver. Available in pendants, rings, as earrings or cuff links.

Some people are so lucky…

I was running across Queen Street a few weeks ago and spotted the cutest little couple walking down the street holding hands.

Made me think of how lucky some people are to meet their true love and maybe like this couple get to spend most of their lives together.

Weeks later I went to a photographic auction and the same couple was captured on film by one of the students.

I think its a little funny that I was there on the day the picture was taken and that I got the chance to buy it at the auction.

I gave the picture to my friend Kylie for her birthday and thought it was only appropriate for the words “I am growing” relates to birthdays but also because Kylie and Alex are one of those lucky couples that I am lucky to know.

The other picture was also purchased on the same night by another lucky person I happen to know and even though the picture is lovely it is not as lovely as getting to know someone that can pick my favorite picture in a room full of lovely art work…

Socks, Sandals & a Leica M6

A couple of weeks ago I got to play with a Leica M6 for the first time. As always I wasn’t very confident on what the outcome would be. Mainly because as I was been carefully shown what to do by a “pro” the instructions went in one ear and out of the other ear in just a second…When I saw the result I must say I was a little impressed with myself.

I took two pictures of my mate Wes and I think he looks cool in them but my favorite of the three pictures I took is the one of the old little lady sitting all on her own at the Powerhouse…reading the paper in her very “cool chic” socks and sandals look. I think as we get old we reserve the right to wear whatever we like and there is something very endearing about this cute little old lady and this particular picture.

I have also include another picture that was taken with the Leica M6 by the “pro” so you can see what an amazing camera this is and what a difference it makes to have “someone that knows what he is doing” when playing with the Leica.

I have been told that I can use with the Leica anytime soon so I can get more practice on how to use it so I look forward to sharing some new pictures in the next few posts.

I sometimes…

Really do live up to my reputation on loopy and lusty. This week was one of those weeks where my heart broke just a little bit more. On weeks like this I often cry and listen to really sad music and swim in my own pool of sorrow & bitterness and tears. This is not a secret so I really don’t mind talking about it…

I then pull myself out of but not without the help of some amazing friends and some really old literature that often helps me restore faith in love. Books like “The Thoughts of Nanushka” & “Penguin’s Poems for Love”. I got this book last year from Avid Reader book shop in West End for someone but they left it behind when they left my life not long ago.

It’s a good thing because for the past few days I have been reading it and loving every single poem for it takes me to a world where people did mean what they said and said what they meant & a world where saying I love you never meant enough…

So pretty and taken outside my work last week,

I have to say that I miss the clothes and the cue girls but when I walk out of the office and look up at the colours in the sky…I feel happy.

I took the pictures with my i-phone and when I showed this to my friend Keith Rowell he said…”there are features of interest and some nice composition at work”

A positive comment from a pro and not bad for someone like me who has zero confidence when taking pictures…

Sorry I don’t do line ups,

But for Ron Mueck’s show maybe I will. I had the pleasure to see his solo show for the first time this week and I was awestruck. Not only by the magnitude of each peace but also by his dedication to his craft and pure talent.

I was familiar with his work from previous Goma shows but I was lucky to be in the company of someone that had no idea about the artist work and to see the look of surprise is priceless. Its honesty the best 12 bucks I have ever spent!

Goma once again did not disappoint and has an extensive program witch includes gallery talks, guided tours, My Gen for people over 50 and the education program for secondary students.

West End Chick,

Meet Doris- the new member of my little family. She is red, she is hot and she does go super fast.

After years of riding a race bike around the river loop and entering triathlon events I have decided that its time for me to not only avoid getting killed by crazy motorist but also to get out there in style.

Doris came from one of the best bikes shops here in Brisbane the Gear shop in West End and while she looks a little old fashion she is built with all the commodities of a modern bike.

Best of all I don’t have to wear the hideous not very flattering Lycra ever again…

Many years ago,

I used to live in Cairns. I have many fond memories of my time there and some are pretty funny and very reflective of what life was like back in the early nineties in the FNQ.

One morning…I woke up to some fuss outside the house of a guy I was seen at the time. Kids where playing with a baby croc that had wash onto the street due to the heavy rain.

I was way to scared to touch it so someone quickly called the wildlife services to have the baby croc removed.

I was at St Vinnies the other day and came across this little beauty . A 100% croc leather bag for less than lunch. It reminded me of that story and the characters that used to make up most of the memories of that time.

A side of me feels a little sad for the baby croc but another thinks better it than me.

The perfect shoot!

The perfect photo shoot must have a lovely model (with a closet to die for) a very talented photographer, a Mr fancy whiling to hold a reflector, an amazing camera or two or even three of them a kick arse set of lights a Simon Degroot backdrop, an old bike and a little spanglish style-ist who can organise everyone to get together at the same time and date…

The results speak for themselves… and it only took about two hours to do! (Thought I am sure Bjorn spent a lot more time post editing and for that I am forever grateful)

I think the best bit about all this is that we are all peeps who have a day job that we like but a past time and creative outlet that we are very passionate about and love.

I like to thank Bjorn , Mr Fancy Ian and the lovely Jennie all who kindly donated their beauty, time and creative skills to help me bring this week’s blog to you.

The photo shoot

I am a lucky girl. Not only do I get to style with the most fashion forward designs everyday I also get to work with some pretty amazing chicas with style beyond their years.

Meet Jennie…

We arrange to meet outside Box Vintage and when she stepped out of the 192 bus with her 2 bags full of clothes she looked like she just stepped out of some funky video clip.

When she opened the bags so I could choose the garments for the photo shoot I was in heaven. Her collection of Cue campaign pieces is of control and as I gorged myself amongs the clothes she mentioned to me that she is just like Carrie and that she puts her money right where she can see it…in her closet! (bless)

Here is what jennie has to say about her style…

My style is dark and grungy with a girly edge. I love black, lace, leather, studs, feathers, hardware, all of the 80s revival- leopard print, acid wash, huge shoulders, velvet, embellishment, and high waisted everything. I love to mix vintage pieces with new fashion items and piling on the rings and accessories.

My style icons would probably be Caroline Blomst from Stockholm StreetStyle & Rumi from Fashion Toast. While I don’t necessarily dress like them, I love the way they both dress - so laid back but at the same time so edgy and chic. Caroline always looks fantastic in jeans, a basic tee and a leather jacket, and Rumi in an oversized top, stockings and wedges. I also really love the editorials Caroline styles for her blog - she always creates outfits I could see myself wearing. I will also through in a mention for Rachel Zoe and Mary Kate & Ashleigh - they always look incredible and I love their style.

The item I can’t be without at the moment is my lace up biker boots. They are really edgy and grungy but aren’t too heavy and clunky like Doc’s. I wear them every day with absolutely everything! I also can’t go past an exaggerated shoulder at the moment..pretty much everything I own has shoulder pads, and if it doesn’t, I add them!

I like to mention that master of photos Bjorn donated his time, skills and sexy lights to make this shoot happen and Mr Fancy Ian once again kindly donated his time and creative skills and as you can see they did an amazing job.

The kind of gifts that can help save the earth…

It was only a few years ago and Jorge and I had been window shopping around the Woolloongabba area and as we walked into one of the shops he pointed and said what is that? I turn and he was pointing at a type writer. He sighted and said that is ruckas…(this means cool for a 17 yr old) I laugh and thought of all the things that he may miss out on thanks to the rapidly changing technology.

On Saturday Mr Fancy sent me a text… He said I have a present for you and I think you will like it…I have been looking for it for a while. I waited in anticipation and never expected this.

Its an old Olivetti Lettera 82 and as I opened the case I could smell the old ribbon and wondered who owned before me and if it was used to write love letters or a published book or like Mr Fancy’s mum used by a secretary to write important letters.

As earth hour approaches I think about all the other little things that we should bring back just for the sake of our beautiful but also broken mother earth…

A lot has happened since my last post…My Chile had a earthquake and thousands of people have lost their homes and many their lives. Inevitably when things like this happen we start to think about our lives and how little time we have to enjoy life.

Parte Numero 3

Today we had a stock take at work I am amazed on how fast they can be done. I still remember the days when I used to work at Sportsgirl (as a teenager) and we had to hand write each code and count each item manually. These days and thanks to modern technology we are able to get it all over and done within a couple of hours. Yey for us!

I wish I had such a little gadget here at home so I could go trough all my items to help me get rid of some of the clothes I am sure I have never worn or have not even had a look at for ages…a home stock-take system where emotions or attachment to clothes is not allowed.

Anyway back to the unoform project…

The next set of pictures is probably one of the combinations I would wear the most to work…mainly because most of the belts at work are black bold feature belts. As you know I love matching my belts to my shoes and I think you would agree that the combo is a winner!

The shoes are from Urban Soul…god I miss the Bank Street sales! They used to be on every few months and all shoes where on sale at super cheap prices. I probably would not wear the boots to work…as you can see from the pics I had to take them off and put some cool low shoes back on.

Loopi’s Uniform Project Part 2

So here I again with my Cue little cute lime green dress again. This time I used my other favorite combination…navy blue. I got the navy blue and flower pattern “I Love Billy shoes” sometime ago while shopping in Bungalow with my old friend Kylie from Kylie Gartside jewellery. I wish I wore them a bit more often…not only are they the cutest shoes I have they are super comfy (but you don’t have to drive all that way to get I love Billy shoes as I recently discovered that Izabel at South bank also stocks them)

I got the scarf from my mum…I think I may have mentioned before that she does volunteer work at St Vinnies in West End when in Brisbane and she always brings home the coolest little things for me to mix and match. The belt…hum 100% leather and made by jag.

Next…

The next combo is a little OTT for some but if you know me well then you know that I would have zero problem catching the 196 bus wearing this and maybe a few more accessories…

I love red, lime and navy and I love-love my poker dotty dress I got for mothers days from Jorge a few years ago…the combination POPS! and one of this days I may just wear it but maybe not to work…the head peace I got from Myers and the best bit about it is that it can also be worn as a brooch…love the multi-purpose accessories.

The little red beads are also from st Vinnie’s and as you can see Ian and I got a little carried away having a bit of fun with some of the shoots…

So there you have it…part two done. The best bit about the dress is that is super low maintenance and after wearing it on Monday for the photo shoot I put it in a laundry bag and wash in on the delicate cycle of my washing machine and Voila!

Hum that’s all for now…I think you would agree with me in saying that Ian did fantastic work with the pics. I must go and put something together to wear to the festival tomorrow but stay tuned for Monday’s upload of the final section of my version of the uniform project…

One Monday night…

Inspired by the uniform project’s Sheena Matheiken I set myself a little challenge and together with my parter in crime Ian we set up a makeshift photo studio set and took some cool pictures for you to enjoy…

The materials: One Cue new seasson lime green dress, one cannon EOS 5D camara , one manfrotto tripod, one Ikea light, 3 sets of white sheets and a few of my favorite accesories…huh and the “charge” bike!

The result: over 200 pictures with 38 final shoots! way too many to put in one single blog so for the next few days I will take you trough the diferent styles and belive me there is a few.

My aim for the challenge was to see how many times I could wear this dress in one week without feeling like I am acctually wearing the same thing over and over…as you know I have a new job and its super important to be able to wear our clothes while at work to maximise brand exposure and to be able to share our love of the Cue clothes with our customers…

So my first combination is red and lime…I paired my lime dress with my vintage red belt (I got from the lovely Kitty before she made her move to the big smoke) and my fire engine red bag I got when I was in Melbourne a few years ago.I know its sounds a bit OTT but guess what? it acctually works…

I wore my dress with pride to work on Tuesday and similarly to the yellow week from last year’s challange I got lots of positive feedback…I say bring on bright clolours and even more so when you can combine them with almost any colour under the sun!

I am super excited about the next blog when I show you my other super combo of lime and navy blue…can’t wait!
